New York, December 3, 2013 – Seattle-based Sabey Data Center Properties announced today that its high rise data center in New York City, Intergate.Manhattan, has signed a long-term lease to provide mission critical space to B&H Photo, Video & Pro Audio, the largest non-chain photo and video equipment store in the United States.

B&H will relocate, upgrade and expand its online store, BHPhotoVideo.com, from its present physical location, to space at Intergate.Manhattan, 375 Pearl Street.

Year after year, B&H Photo, Video &Pro Audio receives the top rating in Consumer Reports Magazine‘s customer surveys.

In addition, B&H will expand its overall web and computer capacity by at least 300%, connecting its new data processing facility at Intergate.Manhattan to its West Side superstore and its warehouse in Brooklyn via dark fiber.

B&H is a turn-key customer at Intergate.Manhattan.  Sabey Data Center Properties will provide B&H with a highly secure, mission critical environment.   Sabey assisted B&H in the build out.

Sabey, one of the largest privately-owned multi-tenant data center owner/developer/operators in the United States, is now commencing mission-critical operations at the 1-million-square-foot tower.

The building offers many advantages that are not available elsewhere in Manhattan.  The purpose-built data center’s 35,000-square-foot floor plates are designed for tenant expansion and are augmented on three sides by large, basement-to-roof open shafts, or “bustles,” which are external to the building and which allow almost unlimited vertical transportation potential for fiber and MEP commodities without disturbing existing tenants.   High clear heights with easily-accessible, open, overhead cableways obviate the clutter and confusion of raised floor cabling.

New York, November 13, 2013 – Seattle-based Sabey Data Center Properties announced today that United Fiber & Data (UFD), the provider of an alternative fiber network between New York City and the Washington, D.C. region, has signed a licensing agreement to establish two redundant network points of entry at Intergate.Manhattan, Sabey’s new lower Manhattan data center.

Based in York, PA, UFD has built a proprietary, “next level” (NXT LVL) dark fiber network that connects two large Northeast U.S. Internet hubs – Manhattan and Ashburn, VA — along a first-of-its-kind route that passes through New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland.  UFD’s network bypasses the traditional I-95/Amtrak corridor that most service providers follow.  Instead, the UFD network follows a pathway outside the East Coast “single points of failure” from natural and man-made hazards and connects top financial exchanges and global destinations for Internet peering and high-bandwidth networking.

UFD is pursuing an aggressive installation at Intergate.Manhattan and plans to “go live” on December 15, 2013.  One of its customers, Datagram, a major web hosting company, is also a colocation tenant at Intergate.Manhattan.

AMS-IX Opens Internet Exchange in the New York Market

The European Internet exchanges keep coming. The latest provider to enter the US market in AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange) today announced plans to create an exchange spanning four data centers in New York and New Jersey. The move reflects growing momentum for Open-IX, the movement to spread the European model for exchanging traffic between major networks.

AMS-IX USA Inc. has struck deals with Digital Realty, DuPont Fabros Technology, Sabey Data Centers and 325 Hudson in the New York/New Jersey area to build and operate a distributed Internet Exchange, named AMS-IX New York.

AMS-IX says it will also deploy new Open-IX exchanges in the Chicago and Silicon Valley markets, which will go live in the first and second quarter of 2014, respectively. This new business initiative is a response to the certification process by the Open-IX Association for the setup of neutral and distributed Internet Exchanges in the United States.

Surge of Entrants from Europe

This makes AMS-IX the third major European exchange operator to enter the US market this year. The London Internet Exchange (LINX) is launching the LINX NoVa exchange across three sites in northern Virginia, while Frankfurt-based DE-CIX is setting up an exchange in the New York market.

The recent rise of the Open-IX movement has reinvigorated efforts to bring the European approach to exchanges to the US market. In the European interconnection model, Internet traffic exchanges are managed by participants, rather than the colocation providers hosting the infrastructure. This model has struggled to establish itself in the U.S., where peering has been focused on commercial exchanges, especially those operated by Equinix. The Open-IX framework is emphasizing a neutral governance model and the technical compliance of any participating data center providers.

The new AMS-IX exchange will be spread across three data centers in Manhattan and one in central New Jersey:

  • Digital Realty Trust, 111 8th Avenue, New York
  • DuPont Fabros Technology, Piscataway, NJ
  • 325 Hudson Street, New York
  • Sabey Data Centers, Intergate.Manhattan (375 Pearl Street) in New York

AMS-IX said it could add more locations in the New York market if it sees market demand and interest from other data center providers. In Amsterdam, the AMS-IX exchange platform is distributed across 12 different data centers serving more than 600 IP networks from around the globe. Established in the early 1990s, AMS-IX has a traffic peak of around 2.5 terabits per second.

“The opportunity to start neutral, distributed Internet Exchanges in the US with the endorsement of the Open-IX community fits our strategy of building Internet Exchanges in connectivity hub locations around the world,” said Job Witteman, Chief Executive Officer of AMS-IX. “We believe the model will bring the North American IP interconnection market tremendous value by decreasing complexity as well as the associated costs. AMS-IX New York is currently accepting orders in the 111 8th Digital Realty facility, where it says it is ready to provision customer ports.

Untouched by Superstorm Sandy, Intergate.Manhattan Will “Future Proof” Its Tenants

(Nasdaq: WIN), a leading provider of advanced network communications, has selected Sabey’s Intergate.Manhattan data center as the location for a new central office to provide capacity for future growth as well as further protection against natural disasters like Superstorm Sandy, Windstream will be a powered shell customer at Intergate.Manhattan, building out its own facility comprising 11,000 square feet with a 15-year lease. Windstream has contracted for 664 kW of power with the option to expand to 1 MW. Windstream also plans to install a major satellite communications center at Intergate.Manhattan with an antenna farm on the data center’s roof.

Michael Morris of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank executed the point-of-entry lease on behalf of Sabey Data Centers. Michael Rareshide of Partners National represented Windstream in the lease negotiations.
