Douglas County, WA, January 29, 2021 – Seattle-based Sabey Data Centers and the Waterville, WA School District (Douglas County District #3) announced today the inauguration of a support initiative in which Sabey has given a $15,000 grant to purchase Chrome tablet computers for the district’s youngest early learners.

Tabatha Mires, Waterville School District Superintendent, said, “We are blessed that Sabey reached out and found us. We are a district with 265 students from pre-K through 12th grade, and we have been in-school, in-person since September. The new tablets will be distributed to our youngest students in transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten (K). They will now use as much technology in school as, say, our third- and fourth-graders who are very computer-literate.”
She added, “This is great timing. The tablets are a critical component of a new curriculum that is focused on technology.”
Sabey owns and operates SDC Columbia, a colocation data center campus in East Wenatchee, WA, approximately 30 miles from Waterville.
Ryan Beebout, Sabey’s Central Washington General Manager, reported that the donation is a tangible example of one of Sabey’s core values – the company’s commitment to life-long, accelerated continuous learning. He said, “We are strong supporters of education and its importance to the well-being of the community. We will always seek to build relationships with people who place a high value on education.”
Superintendent Mires added, “Our four-year-olds in TK are incredible. They’ve been using their parents’ smart phones, and now they have smart devices of their own, which will be handed down to next year’s students. We look forward to when we distribute the new tablets, and we hope that our partners from Sabey will join us on that day.”
Sabey Data Centers also has a decades-long tradition of offering school field trips to its facilities, which will continue in post-Covid-19 years. The company works closely with local school districts throughout Washington State to encourage students who wish to pursue careers in technology.
Prior donations have gone to support Big Bend Community College’s Workforce Education Center, local food banks, education programs for kids, and Share the Warmth.
