Offers “Alternate Route” Dark Fiber Service Between Northern Virginia and New York City Internet Node
- Sabey Data Center Properties announced today that United Fiber & Data has signed an agreement to establish a major presence at its premier NY data center SDC Manhattan.
- Sabey’s new Manhattan data center with its strategic market location, storm proof facilities, unparalleled infrastructure, and state-of-the-art physical security, will provide United Fiber & Data with unmatched opportunities to expand their customer base.
- With its unique assets, SDC Manhattan is on a path to becoming the foremost carrier hotel on the East Coast, and will soon house additional service providers from both the U.S. and Europe.
New York, November 13, 2013 – Seattle-based Sabey Data Center Properties announced today that United Fiber & Data (UFD), the provider of an alternative fiber network between New York City and the Washington, D.C. region, has signed a licensing agreement to establish two redundant network points of entry at SDC Manhattan, Sabey’s new lower Manhattan data center.
Based in York, PA, UFD has built a proprietary, “next level” (NXT LVL) dark fiber network that connects two large Northeast U.S. Internet hubs – Manhattan and Ashburn, VA — along a first-of-its-kind route that passes through New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland. UFD’s network bypasses the traditional I-95/Amtrak corridor that most service providers follow. Instead, the UFD network follows a pathway outside the East Coast “single points of failure” from natural and man-made hazards and connects top financial exchanges and global destinations for Internet peering and high-bandwidth networking.
UFD is pursuing an aggressive installation at SDC Manhattan and plans to “go live” on December 15, 2013. One of its customers, Datagram, a major web hosting company, is also a colocation tenant at SDC Manhattan.
John Sabey, Executive Director, Sabey Data Center Properties, said, “UFD’s decision to establish two redundant points of entry at SDC Manhattan is hard evidence that our digital data center at 375 Pearl Street is also ideal for carriers. Our storm proof, mission critical infrastructure, is consistent with UFT’s mission to build a network that is virtually immune to the hazards that threaten other systems.”
“Sabey’s SDC Manhattan facility is one of New York City’s key data center locations,” stated Christopher Lodge, President and Chief Operating Officer of United Fiber & Data. “New York is a critical strategic location for international carriers, and Sabey provides top-notch interconnection and colocation to global service providers from its 375 Pearl Street location. UFD is proud to offer highest-quality, reliable and redundant connectivity solutions to SDC Manhattan.”
Sabey, one of the largest privately-owned multi-tenant data center owner/developer/operators in the United States, commenced 24/7 operations at SDC Manhattan earlier in 2013.
Daniel Meltzer, Sabey Vice President of Sales and Leasing, said, “We are delighted to have UFD as our newest carrier at SDC Manhattan. We believe that their new fiber and access to other data centers in the NY Metro area will be a benefit to our tenants and other carriers here at IGM.”
Additional carriers, including some from Europe and Asia, presently are in negotiations with Sabey Data Center Properties and are expected to sign licensing agreements soon at Sabey’s SDC Manhattan.
