Better for the Planet, Better for Business

Sabey Data Centers is committed to sustainability and doing our part to slow global climate change. We’re among the first 150 corporate signatories of The Climate Pledge, and we’ve committed to reaching net-zero carbon by 2029. Running sustainable data centers is essential to our mission and our core values.

Our Climate Pledge

Sabey Data Centers became one of the first 150 corporate signatories of The Climate Pledge in 2021. Spearheaded by Amazon and Global Optimism, this multinational collaboration endeavors to reach net-zero carbon by 2040, a full ten years before the Paris Agreement deadline.

That’s because we believe that combating climate change isn’t just a noble goal, it’s good for business. When we practice sustainability together, we make a huge difference in how data centers work; today, tomorrow and every day after. That’s why our bottom line is people, planet and profits.

We're on a mission

Sabey Data Centers is one of the largest privately-owned multi-tenant data centers in the US. As such, our industry-leading sustainability didn’t happen by accident. We are implementing a carbon reduction plan across our Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions so we’re able to make sure that we’re building and maintaining energy-efficient data centers so that we can reach our net-zero carbon emissions goal by 2029

Scope 1: Direct Emissions

Scope 1 emissions include direct emissions from operations. Specifically, diesel emissions from backup generators and fugitive emissions from HVAC refrigerants.

Scope 2: Indirect Emissions

Scope 2 emissions include indirect emissions from purchased electricity. Specifically, purchased electricity used to power data center infrastructure.

Scope 3: Other Emissions

Scope 3 is a little more difficult to track and something we’re committed to zooming in on. Scope 3 emissions include all other indirect emissions, including indirect emissions from tenant IT equipment and emissions from commuting.

Sustainability Report

We’re happy to share our 2022 Sustainability Report. This report tells the stories of the strides Sabey is making to cut our Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions and hit our 2029 net-zero carbon pledge.

Partners & certifications

We’ve worked hard to become partners with some of the best and brightest organizations leading the charge on sustainability.

Better Buildings Challenge

The U.S. Department of Energy Better Buildings Challenge is aimed at reducing energy use throughout businesses’ portfolios by at least 20% over 10 years. Sabey has improved energy performance by 42% from a 2014 baseline, far surpassing this goal and was recognized as the Highest Energy Saving Data Center Operator by the DOE in 2017.

Better Climate Challenge

Sabey Data Centers signed on to the Better Climate Challenge committing to a 50% reduction in GHG emissions across their 3.8 million-square-foot portfolio over 10 years.

Sabey Data Centers is proud to have seven ENERGY STAR-certified buildings across our portfolio. All are rated above a 94 with most scoring 99 or 100, or more energy efficient than 99-100% of data centers.

Science Based Targets

Sabey has committed to set a portfolio-wide carbon emissions target to meet the most ambitious aim of the Paris Agreement – to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Our goal and method was validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi)

Green Lease Leaders

Sabey received Gold recognition from the Green Leader Leaders program. The Green Lease Leaders program recognizes forward-thinking companies who foster high-performance by incorporating both energy efficiency and sustainability into its operating requirements.

The Climate Pledge

Sabey is a signatory to The Climate Pledge, a collaborative initiative co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism, with a commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2040.

The affordable, better way to power our data centers

In addition to being a renewable resource, our emphasis on hydroelectricity boils down to one thing: profitability. This clean energy helps us meet our sustainability goals while also providing a lower
total cost to our tenants. Curious as to how renewable energy can help lower the overall Total Cost of Ownership of our data centers?
